Bangchon Station (방촌역) — Daegu Metro Line 1

Outline
Bangchon Station is located on Daegu Metro Line 1 in Dong-gu, Daegu. Opened on May 2, 1998, the station sits beneath 275 Dongchon-ro (Bangchon-dong). Positioned at a depth of 14.2m on the second basement level, it features a relative double-track platform design with cross-platform accessibility.
The name “Bangchon” originates from the fertile river plain that historically provided abundant water and good land for settlement. Though sometimes confused with “Bangcheon” (防川), the chosen hanja (芳村) reflects the idea of a flourishing village.
Station Information
Bangchon is primarily surrounded by mid-rise apartment complexes, forming one of the largest residential clusters north of the Geumho River. The skyline is restricted to under 20 stories due to proximity to Daegu International Airport and the K-2 Airfield.
Key characteristics of the station area:
- Residential Hub: Seogan Riverside, Seyoung Ricel Apartment, Woobang Mansion, Boseong Gangnam Town, and Genes Apartments.
- Local Commerce: Anchored by Bangchon Market and scattered neighborhood shops, but limited external commercial appeal due to development restrictions.
- Airfield Proximity: From the Bangchon Public Safety Center area, planes from K-2 Airfield can be seen taking off and landing. This contributes to constant aircraft noise.
- End-of-line Nursery Track: Bangchon functions as the last stop for the nursery line. The final train from Seolhwa Myeonggok terminates here overnight before returning as the first train the next morning.
Screen doors were installed early (2016) to mitigate noise despite relatively low passenger demand.
Exits
- Exit 1: Coastal Resident Welfare Center, access toward K-2 Airfield.
- Exit 2: IM Bank Bangchon Branch, alleyway into residential complexes.
- Exit 3: Connects via Gangchon Sunshine Bridge to Palhyeon Ecological Park (20 minutes on foot) and Suseong Family Park (30 minutes on foot).
- Exit 4: Formerly hosted the Bangchon Security Center and Palgongsan Kimchi factory. Both sites were cleared in 2024, leaving the exit without major facilities.
Average Daily Passengers
Passenger statistics (boarding + alighting):
- 2010: 5,972
- 2015: 6,849
- 2019: 7,028 (peak)
- 2020: 4,799 (COVID-19 impact)
- 2024: 6,431
Although daily averages hover around 6,000, Bangchon consistently ranks in the lower-middle usage tier for Line 1. Compared with Dongchon, Haean, and Yonggye stations, Bangchon tends to draw slightly higher ridership thanks to its residential catchment area.
