Ayanggyo Station (Daegu International Airport Entrance) – 아양교역

Outline
Ayanggyo Station (아양교역) sits on Daegu Metro Line 1 of Daegu, between Dong-gu Office and Dongchon. Opened on May 2, 1998, it was named after Ayanggyo Bridge, which spans the nearby Geumho River. In 2017, the station was officially renamed Ayanggyo (Daegu International Airport Entrance) to highlight its role as the closest subway connection to Daegu International Airport.
With its depth of 22.1m (B4 level), Ayanggyo is one of the deeper stations on Line 1. Despite lacking a direct airport link, it has become a crucial transfer hub for passengers heading to the airport, Palgongsan, and Dongchon recreation areas.
Station Information
- Line: Daegu Metro Line 1 (Station 137)
- Opened: May 2, 1998
- Depth: 22.1m (B4 level)
- Platform Type: Relative platforms (no crossing)
- Operator: Daegu Transportation Corporation
- Management: Dongdaegu Management Station / Customer Center 1
🚇 Accessibility: Elevators connect platforms to the concourse, but only one elevator runs from concourse to street level (Exit 4). This makes bus transfers to Daegu International Airport trickier compared to Dong-gu Office Station.
Fun fact: In 2013, an otter was discovered inside the men’s restroom on the 3rd basement floor — briefly making the station a viral headline in local news.
Around the Station
- Daegu International Airport (대구국제공항) – ~1.3km away. Reachable via taxi or buses from Exit 2.
- Ayanggyo Bridge (아양교) – iconic span over the Geumho River, namesake of the station.
- Ayang Railroad Bridge (아양철교) – former Daegu Line railway bridge, now a renovated pedestrian and tourism landmark.
- Mangu Park & Ayang Art Center – accessible via bus connections.
- Dongchon Recreation Area – riverside leisure zone, connected via Haedong-ro.
Although the immediate station area is mostly residential apartments, its importance lies in bus transfer potential at Ayang Intersection.
Average Daily Passengers
Ayanggyo Station saw an average of 8,953 daily riders in 2024. While the immediate surroundings lack a strong commercial center, demand is fueled by:
- Passengers transferring to buses for Daegu International Airport.
- Residents from Ipseok-dong, Jijeo-dong, Bullo-dong, Do-dong, and Pyeonggwang-dong who rely on Ayang Intersection transfers.
- Short-distance transfer traffic, especially during rush hours.
Upcoming redevelopment south of the station (~2,000 households) is expected to raise usage further.
Platform
- Type: Relative platforms (no crossing).
- Depth: B4, one of the deepest on Line 1.
- Escalators: Divided by direction on B2 and B3 levels.
Because the tracks curve into Dongchon via an underpass tunnel, trains here often tilt sharply inward — a unique ride experience on Line 1.
Transportation Connections
Bus Transfers (Exit 2 & Exit 1):

💡 Tip: For easier access to buses heading toward the airport or Esiapolis, Exit 3 of Dong-gu Office Station may be more convenient than Ayanggyo Station, as it is shallower and less crowded.
Look Around
Ayanggyo Station is more than just a local subway stop. It’s a transfer hub where urban commuters, airport travelers, and even hikers to Palgongsan intersect. While not directly connected to Daegu International Airport, it effectively serves as its gateway, especially with the steady growth of low-cost airline routes.
The remodeled Ayang Railroad Bridge nearby adds cultural and tourism value, making Ayanggyo not just a transit point but a bridge between city life and travel.
